LULAC Dayton – Council 39000

LULAC Dayton Council #39000 advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, housing and civil rights of the Latino population of Dayton and the surrounding area. Our council is proud to carry on the tradition of LULAC National. The rich history and impactful accomplishments for nearly 90 years has rippled out to help shape US policy and programs in various ways. One such example is the Little School of the 400 program launched in 1950, influenced the creation of the National Head Start program in 1965.

Through our local membership, we partner with various non-profit, NGO's, local, state and national educational and governmental agencies to provide access to resources & referral services. In collaborating with these partners, we also seek to increase educational and economic development opportunities for the local Latino/Hispanic community.

An excellent demonstration of this was Dayton LULAC's founding of  El Puente Tutoring Center several years ago.  This early learning center provides a bridge for Latino/-a students from the Dayton Public Schools and non-public Schools to narrow the gap of identified academic shortcomings.  You can find out more at El Puente Community Learning Center 's page on Facebook.

Our Dayton Council also partners with LULAC National through matching dollars, and local businesses and individual donors to provide college scholarships to Latino/-a students.  Please contact the Council if you know of a Latino/-a student who wishes to apply fo this annual college scholarship.
